Standard Gene Set Name | ORYZA_SATIVA_WALL-ASSOCIATED_KINASES |
Species | Arabidopsis thaliana |
Brief Description | Oryza sativa Wall-associated Kinases |
Full Description/Abstract | The Wall-Associated Kinase (WAK) family was originally identified as a subfamily of the receptor-like kinase (RLK) superfamily in plants. The first WAK structurally classified had a putative extracellular epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like domain and a putative intracellular serine/threonine kinase domain. Based upon these criteria, Zhang?et al.?have identified 125 genes that share similarity with these structural characteristics. A total of 67 genes have the classic RGF-like extracellular and Ser/Thr kinase intracellular domains (OsWAK-RLK). An additional 28 genes were found to have only the cytoplasmic Ser/Thr kinase domain and >40% amino acid identity with a WAK-RLK (OsWAK-RLCK). Thirteen genes were found to posses only an extracellular EGF-like domain and are called OsWAK-Receptor like proteins (OsWAK-RLP). Two smaller subfamilies were also identified. Twelve OsWAK are <300 amino acids and lack identifiable domains, but have >40% overall amino acid identity with an OsWAK-RLK member. Five OsWAK pseudogenes containing premature stop codons or frameshifts within the predicted open reading frame were also found. |
